
Janina Wilmskoetter, PhD, CCC-SLP
Dr. Janina Wilmskoetter, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) division at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. She teaches graduate courses on aphasia and dysphagia, conducts research in these areas, and provides clinical care in adult acute care and outpatient neurodegenerative clinics. Originally from Germany, Dr. Wilmskoetter earned an undergraduate and graduate degree in Clinical Linguistics in Germany and practiced as an SLP in inpatient and outpatient settings before pursuing her PhD. Her primary research goal is to comprehend how stroke lesions and brain aging affect the neurological aspects of dysphagia and aphasia, ultimately striving to create tailored, evidence-based treatments that optimize recovery potential for individuals with brain injury.
